Coastal Arts League

The Coastal Arts League is a volunteer organization whose members, professional and amateur artists, live in the region. CAL operates two art galleries at 300 Main Street in Half Moon Bay to expand public understanding and increase access to art and artists. We teach creative visual arts, in an on-going program of community engagement, because it makes Half Moon Bay a better place to live.

Lifelong Learning for adults has proven to increase creativity and engagement, while stimulating minds and increasing the range of thought. Taught by volunteers, the Senior Art classes are free to participants. Materials are provided by CAL. The first 8 week session was well received, and a second session beginning in March, continues through April. We plan to run 8-week art programs throughout the year, open to all citizens of the Coastside community.

Through an After-School Art Program, serving K-5 students who live in the Mid-Peninsula Housing area, we support students' development of creativity, overall well-being, and academic achievement. The first 8 week session of fun and free classes began in March, 2017. Three volunteer teachers teach these classes, using instructor developed lessons and the Art in Action curriculum. They need art supplies for children, and storage bins, for teachers.
Our volunteer art teachers are excited to see how the boys who were recently engaged in playing computer games, have become interested in the hands-on activities and social interaction. Kids appreciate that an adult will spend time with them, and are eager to engage with each other in creative play.

I had a wonderful time playing with the paint colors, and laughed at the funny comments from my colleagues during the session. Thank you for the opportunity to express our individualities and discover some new activities. Antoine

Really fun! Had a great time!!!
